The process of traditional weight loss dieting involves externalising body cues. This allows our environment to dictate when, what and how much we choose to eat, leading us to mindless eating.

Instead we need to focus on mindful eating, eating with increased awareness. It involves eating with our thoughts, feelings and behaviors in a non judgmental environment.

Many of our clients have tried and tested diets with the promise of weight loss. What isn’t often said is that the deprivation of restrictive diets leads to a cycle of overeating and guilt, which is only answered with another overly restrictive diet. This leads to changes in metabolism and even more difficulty losing weight.

So, what is Mindful Eating?

Mindful Eating embraces the entire practice of eating. Our Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APDs) will discuss key concepts that will allow you to develop a healthier relationship with food.

Key concepts include:

  • Awareness of your physical and emotional cues
  • Recognition of your non-hunger triggers for eating
  • Learning to meet your other needs in more effective ways than eating
  • Choosing food for both enjoyment and nourishment
  • Eating for optimal satisfaction and satiety

Our APDs can assist you in learning to observe your own thoughts and awareness, empowering you to finally break the vicious cycle of dieting.
